Numismatics Noir: Where Black Culture and Currency Collide

jenniferaingram

For centuries, money has been more than just a means of trade—it's been a reflection of power, history, and cultural identity. However, many of the stories told through U.S. currency have largely provided limited visibility of Black figures and their contributions to American history.

We're excited to share this educational and collectible deck that brings together over 30 rarely seen pieces of U.S. currency, and the opportunity for you to own one of these rare uncirculated coins. This deck features prominent Black individuals—honoring their contributions, experiences, and the impact they have made on U.S. history. After years of dedicated research, this collection represents the most complete and up-to-date assembly of Black history through U.S. coins in one place.

Why This Matters

While coin collecting and the study of currency (known as numismatics) has been a hobby for centuries, it was once reserved for the wealthy and elite. Today, however, it is accessible to all, offering both a connection to history and a path to asset-building by investing in precious metals and items that have appreciated over time.

This deck highlights coins minted from 1946 to 2025, with a focus on commemorative coins—special edition pieces that are legal U.S. tender but created primarily for collection rather than circulation. Many of these coins hold greater value than their face price, especially if they contain precious metals like silver or gold, making them more than just keepsakes—they’re investments.

Numismatics Noir: A Calibrated Lens Initiative

Numismatics Noir isn’t just about collecting—it’s about education, representation, and economic empowerment. This initiative was created to:

Introduce coin collecting as an investment strategy, making numismatics a gateway to asset-building and financial literacy- specifically in the area of precious metals.

Increase diversity in the world of coin collecting by bringing visibility to Black individuals featured on U.S. currency. Numismatics Noir is a community where knowledge is shared freely, allowing others to learn, engage, and benefit from the world of numismatics.

Inspire pride in owning tangible pieces of U.S. history that is unfortunately largely  inaccessible to most, a keepsake that can be passed down through generations.

Highlight coin and Precious metals investments as a tool to address the racial wealth gap, offering an accessible way to start building generational wealth.

If you have ANY quarter minted between 1796 and 1964, it’s worth more than 25 cents!

Why? Quarters from this period were 90% silver, making them significantly more valuable than their face price. Depending on rarity and condition, their true worth can range from $5 to $1,000,000.

Who's Behind Numismatics Noir??

Jennifer A. Ingram: Global Citizen, Entrepreneur, Executive, Artist, Author, & Philanthropist Who Strives to Reclaim History, Representation, and Wealth Through Numismatics

For Jennifer A. Ingram, coin collecting has always been more than just a hobby—it’s been a bridge to history, a way to honor the past, and a tool for building the future. As a child, she spent hours collecting coins with her mother, fascinated by the stories each piece of currency could tell. But as she sifted through quarters, nickels, and random international coins, one thing became clear: she rarely saw herself reflected in the history she was holding.

Despite the profound contributions of Black leaders, innovators, and changemakers, their presence on U.S. currency was minimal and often overlooked. This realization stayed with Jennifer as she grew, igniting a passion to change the narrative—not just for herself, but for others who shared this curiosity.

Jennifer’s passion for economic inclusion and empowerment is deeply rooted in her professional expertise. As an award-winning business leader, entrepreneur, speaker, artist and author, she has spent her life inspiring change and fostering inclusive communities. She's the Founder and CEO of two companies, 3011Whitney and Calibrated Lens. She has also successfully led DEI strategies within top global brands across philanthropy, healthcare, and real estate development- to name a few; bringing together leadership and key stakeholders to create more inclusive and sustainable solutions.

Driven by a deep commitment to giving back and sharing knowledge, in 2022 Jen Ingram, Calibrated Lens Founder and CEO, started the process to trademark the name "Numismatics Noir" a groundbreaking Calibrated Lens initiative with the goal of furthering the company's vision of changing views of equity and inclusion through coins and currency. We are excited to share this first of it's kind, noir coin card deck that seeks to inspire and educate.

Jennifer has accomplished something that less than 1% of  people in the world have completed. In 2025, she accomplished the goal of traveling to all seven continents. As a global citizen, someone that studies art, currency, and authentic experiences on a global platform, Jennifer has a unique perspective on history, identity, and the ways in which different cultures honor their heritage. Her vast array of experiences have shaped her ability to approach differences with curiosity and humility, always seeking to understand how others experience life, cultivate belonging, and celebrate diversity.

What began as a childhood passion and curiosity has evolved into a movement—rooted in education, empowerment, and legacy. Through Numismatics Noir, Jennifer is not just collecting coins from around the world; she’s playing a small part in ensuring that Black history is recognized, valued, and passed down for generations to come.
